#32 Salines, waters, fossils and elephant legs in the south

Cactus and natural products in the Biosphere Reserve. Flavors of the sea. Dinosaur footprints. Elephant legs. Mineral wealth.

Experience

1 This tour begins in Zapotitlán Salinas. Whether you're way deeper into the Biosphere Reserve Tehuacán-Cuicatlan. Large cactus dominate the landscape. Look closely: see the old salt dug into the hill. In the  Helia Bravo Hollis Botanical Garden Community make an interpreted tour of the local flora. Stroll among giant cactus and admire the centennial "elephant leg". Testing cosmetics and exquisite handmade salt. You can also sleep and get up early to watch birds from the observation towers.

2 Now comes the most adventurous part of the journey: to reach San Juan Raya the road is unpaved part in a desert and fascinating landscape. In this small town dinosaur footprints and thousands of fossils abound. Visit the  Paleontological Museum and runs through the

Turritelas Ecotourism Park by bike, foot or horseback, the hand of a local guide. You can organize meals and also provide hosting service for anyone wishing to prolong the adventure.

3 In return, lthe last stop is Tehuacan, the largest city in the region. Tehuacán is famous for its waters, as Peñafiel, and you can try mineral water in the springs of San Lorenzo. If you are hungry, enjoy a delicious mole of hips or muéganos. Here we recommend you visit the Casa de la Cultura, the the Museum of Mineralogy and the Tehuacan Valley Museum, located in the former convent of Carmen. These museums offer a glimpse into the valley since time was seabed to its prehistoric occupation. And do not miss the  Franciscan Ex-convent .
